The visiting Swedish Parliamentarian, Richard Nodding, on Wednesday, October 8, paid a courtesy call on the House Committee Chairman on Foreign Affairs, Representative Nehker Gaye, on Capitol Hill in Monrovia.

During their closed-door meeting, which lasted almost an hour, the two parliamentarians discussed the way forward in fighting climate change and its impact on the global economy.

The two officials emphasized the need for Liberia to join other countries in the establishment of climate laws that will protect the global community from the threat of this natural phenomenon.

The discussion also centered on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and the establishment of Liberia-Swedish parliamentary friendship.

The visiting parliamentarian emphasized that such a friendship will help Liberia and Sweden engage the global community on issues of concern to the two countries.

For his part, Representative Nehker Gaye lauded the Swedish Parliament for arranging the visit of Nodding, and recalled the critical role played by the friendly country in promoting Liberia’s post war development agenda.

The Nimba County district #3 Representative recalled that Sweden was among countries around the world that used their taxpayers’ money to assist Liberia in the reconstruction of roads, bridges and other infrastructures damaged as a result of the 1990 civil uprising.

Representative Gaye also extended appreciation to the Swedish government for standing by his country during the United Nations’ election for the non-permanent seat on the Security Council of that international body.

In conclusion the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives extended thanks and appreciations on behalf of the government for the visit, and expressed the hope that the engagement will lead to better corporation and partnership that will help Liberia build its image abroad.

Representative Nehker Gaye is not a stranger in Liberia’s diplomatic circle; he served the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in several capacities before he was overwhelming elected to the fifty fifth Legislature in 2023.

The lawmaker is expected to brief Speaker Richard Koon and the entire committee on the outcome of the discussion with the foreign parliamentarian.
