Thomas Foundation’s First Graduates Set Record Straight With WASSCE

The parlance, “The age of Methusala has nothing to do with the wisdom of Solomon”, was manifested academically when the Thomas’ Foundation, a newly established institution, graduated its first 29 students who passed the West African Senior School Certificate Examination successfully.

The WASSCE is conducted in two main diets: the May or June school examination and the November or December private candidate examination. It serves as a critical gateway for students transitioning to tertiary education or entering the workforce, and its certificates are widely recognized both within and beyond the continent.

“Let me tell you, we keep making history in Liberia: we contested the election once and we succeeded; the Thomas’ Foundation sent 29 students once and they all passed the WASSCE,” Michael M. Thomas, Montserrado County’s district #4 Representative and Founder of the school, said.

Thomas Foundation High School, established 2024/2025 academic year, is among notable schools that made a successful pass during the WASSCE, while some renowned schools failed massively.

For the 2025 WASSCE, 51,719 candidates registered, 822 candidates passed at least 5 subjects, including English and Mathematics, with credit, which the Thomas’ Foundation is among. Besides, 28,576 passed at least 5 subjects, including English and Mathematics, with any grade; 37,081 passed at least 4 subjects, including English and Mathematics; and 42,970 passed at least 3 subjects, including English and Mathematics, according to Dale Gbotoe, WASSCE’s boss.

The school’s WASSCE victory moved Representative to go extra miles: he offered scholarships to the 29 students to attend vocational school as they prepare for tertiary education; gave the senior class dux a four-year scholarship to attend the University of Liberia, and vowed his continued support until the 29 graduates obtain master’s degrees, among others.

Because the Thomas’ Foundation is a tuition-free entity, Representative Thomas also reimbursed the dux’s activities fee paid over the year–giving him L$10,000.

Meanwhile, parents and guardians have lauded the school’s authorities for their excellent maintenance of the school.

Formerly, the school was William Pauline Brandy School, but became Thomas’ Foundation High School last year after signing a good deal with the school’s owner, Dr. Willie. Both Representative Thomas and Dr. Willie praised each other for the deal that is educating the future generation.

At the ceremony, some members of the 55th Legislature gave cash to the dux and the school’s administration, and pledged their unflinching support to the school.

The school’s administration has announced that computer service and other activities will be added to the curriculum beginning this year.
