On October 24, 2024, the United Nations celebrated United Nations Day with the inspiring launch of a One UN Hub in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County. The event, spearheaded by Christine N. Umutoni, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Liberia, aims to enhance collaboration among UN agencies and the Government of Liberia (GOL), fostering peace and sustainable development in the region.

Strategically established, the One UN Hub will oversee initiatives across Grand Gedeh, River Gee, Grand Kru, and Maryland counties in southeastern Liberia. This hub underscores the UN’s commitment to addressing the distinct challenges these areas face while promoting inclusive growth and community resilience.

The launch ceremony attracted a diverse audience, featuring notable figures such as

Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, Minster of Education, head of the delegation of government, representing the President at UN Day, and F. Sakila Nyumalin Sr., Minister of Internal Affairs. Local officials, including Superintendent Alex Chesia Grant, traditional leaders, school administrators, and students were also present, showcasing strong community engagement in this vital initiative.

The establishment of the One UN Hub signifies a renewed commitment to collaborative efforts that harness the strengths of various stakeholders. Together with local authorities, the UN aims to inspire and empower communities through innovative programs focused on education, health, and economic development.
