UNHCR Continues Donation To Hospitals
The United Nations High Commission for Refugee (UNHCR) has continued its donation of assorted items to key institutions, affecting the Du-Port Road Health Center, Redemption and ELWA hospitals.
The donation team has been led by the Country Representative of the UNHCR, Anthony Akumu Abogi, with the purpose of beefing up the humanitarian interventions of the benefiting entities.
Prior to stopping by at the three health facilities, Abogi donated huge consignments of assorted items, including solar lights, therma (fleece) blankets, heavy duty plastic buckets, powder soap, mosquito nets, hand gloves, etc. to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, Liberia National Red Cross Society and the Monrovia Prison Center.
The latest donation to the three health centers over the weekend began with Redemption Hospital, in the slum of New Kru Town, Bushrod Island, followed by the Du-Port Road Health Center, and finally the ELWA Hospital, Paynesville, outskirts of Monrovia.
The UNHCR boss presented consignments of items to the facilities, including therma (fleece) blankets, heavy duty plastic buckets, laundry and powder soaps, hand gloves, mosquito nets, hand sanitizers, solar lamp, portable led and white boards.
Giving a unified message to the various administrators during the presentation of the donated items, Abogi emphasized that the gesture of the UNHCR reflects the goodwill of the One United Nations family in Liberia.
“For us as UNHCR, it is very important to have partnership with public and private hospitals like you, because we’ve done same with other developed institutions but we thought to extend it to you, too, considering the enormous challenges you face while providing services to the people of Liberia,” he stated.
The UNHCR Country Representative further promised continued partnership and support to the health centers, in the interest of the country.
He urged the three administrators of the health centers to ensure that the donated items properly benefit the patients of their various wards, emphasizing the need to serve humanity with diligence, dedication and passion.
Receiving the donations, the Officer-in-Charge of Du-Port Road Health Center, Kolu Y. Johnson, and the Administrator of the ELWA Hospital, Rev. James Freeman Garway, and the Redemption Hospital lauded the United Nations High Commission for Refugee (UNHCR) for the intervention.
“This step is like a wonder of God and a blessing to our patients here. We have lots of challenges, especially inadequate hand gloves, unstable electricity and lack of mosquito nets. These are some of the key problems we face here, but the intervention of the UNHCR has put a smile on not only our faces as administration but also the faces of our patients,” Johnson asserted.
The heads of the three health centers promised to meet the expectation of the UN body by ensuring the donation serves the intended purposes.
