The National Youth Coordinating Committee (NYCC) of the National Youth Congress of Unity Party (UP) says, in conformity of its Saturday sitting, it has taken a decision to distance itself, frown on and consider an affront the unilateral decision and publication by the National Youth Chairman of a rally purporting to unveil the President and Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) government’s failed promises, slated for January 18, 2023 under the banner of the Unity Party National Youth Congress.

A press release issued January 16, 2023 and signed by the National Vice Chairman for Administration of the UP Youth Congress, Cyrus L. Greene, II, says, “On January 4, Partisan Toga Melvin Cephas unilaterally published a press statement and shared a flyer on his Facebook page, titled, ‘Unveiling President Weah & CDC failed Promises’. Let the public be notified that said press statement did not meet the consent and or acquiescence of the congress’ leadership or the National Youth Coordinating Committee (NYCC), the highest decision-making authority in the absence of the National Youth Executive Committee (NYEC).”

According to the release, “While we acknowledge the call to unveil the failed promises of President Weah to be a good political endeavor, but not with utter disrespect and disregard to our law, which prohibits an individual from making unilateral decision on behalf of a democratic institution such as the National Youth Congress. So, as the North Pole is eternally away from the South Pole, in like manner, the NYCC distances itself and the entire National Youth Congress from the Unveiling of President Weah’s Failed Promises Political Rally, scheduled for January 18, 2023.

“The National Coordinating Committee also calls on all alleged collaborators to disassociate from Cephas and his planned rally, as the rally does not have any backing of the majority of the Unity Party’s National Youth Congress. We ask that you heed our advice, stand-down, disassociate and not put your members and comrades in harm’s way, all in the interest of Cephas, his cohorts and masters’ arrogance and wanton abuse of power.”

The release continued, “Let it be made clear that the Unity Party, the former ruling and current major opposition party in the country, doesn’t suffer from a diminutive of manpower; only the right thing is required.

“We also call on the Montserrado County, districts and zonal leaders of the National Youth Congress to clearly stay away from partisan Melvin’s ‘one-man show’, as it is not of the Evergreen National Youth Congress (ENYC).

“Finally, the National Youth Coordinating Committee of the Evergreen National Youth Congress mandates Partisan Melvin Cephas to, with immediate effect, terminate this rally, as any attempt to continue will risk further and hasher administrative action from the NYCC.”
