Vambo Commissioner, Others Call For Vambo Township’s Development
The well-being of every citizen is the king or leader’s glory. Based on this, Vambo Township newly inducted Commissioner, L. Nathaniel Clarke, and others have called on the government and others to change the living condition of the citizens of the township through development ventures.
Vambo received its township status in 2003 from the Government of Liberia (GOL). It has been led by two Commissioners, Nathaniel Clarke the third.
In the past, Vambo had been governed by paramount chiefs, who led that part of Grand Bassa County’s district #2 for decades.
According to Vambo Township Development Chairman Matthew Gblorso, the township’s first Commissioner, David Gborgar, led Vambo for 13 years without direct impact on the citizenry. Likewise, the second Commissioner, Daniel Dayougar, governed the Township for eight years allegedly without any fruitfulness.
“Commissioner Nathaniel Clarke is the first Commissioner to present his green letter of appointment to the district as being appointed by President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr.,” Gblorso said. “For the past Commissioners, they did not do so; they got in power without the knowledge or togetherness of the people.”
Gblorso added that he is convicted that Commissioner Clarke will address Vambo Township’s decades of underdevelopment problems.
Vambo Township lacks an academic school, vocational school, clinic, hospital, hand pump, children’s playground, good road condition, among others.
Amidst the influx of NGOs in Liberia during former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf’s administration, which left development imprints in several townships, districts, counties, and so on, Vambo, is said to have not benefited.
“Our Township has not benefited from national government and non-governmental organization since its formation,” the newly inducted Commissioner Clarke said. “Energetic young men often tot pregnant women in labor pain, sick people in hammock, to the main road to BIA before they board cars for Buchanan.”
In a clarion call, Commissioner Clarke called on the Government of Liberia (GOL), Grand Bassa Legislative Caucus, Monrovia City Mayor, and local and international development partners to come to Vambo Township’s aid in terms of development.
Teenage pregnancy, teenagers fathering and mothering children, and loitering of young boys and girls from town to town, village to village, are on the rise in Vambo Township.
A group of youngsters who spoke with the Hot Pepper expressed frustration over the town’s primitive lifestyle while the world is in a state of modernity. They said they want the construction of both academic and vocational training schools, self-empowerment, scholarship, women empowerment, among others.
Accordingly, Commissioner Clarke has called all-hand-on-deck to prioritize Vambo’s development agenda. As a result, several citizens have pledged bags of cement among other goodwill gestures.
