“Weah Unfit To Lead”–Amb. Lewis Brown Says; Announces “We Tiyah Suffering” Rally
Ambassador Lewis G. Brown, a lead member of Team Cummings 2023, has descended on President George M. Weah’s “lackadaisical” behavior toward the governance of the nation state, claiming that the soccer legend is unfit to lead and that he was never a leader, will never be a leader and his one-term presidency is a failed one.
According to Ambassador Brown, President Weah has used the country to care for himself and to live a dreamed life of a celebrity. “He continues to do so without caring about how his desire to be a celebrity at the expense of poor Liberians actually affects Liberia and Liberians,” he lamented.
He accused President Weah of living in a bubble of pretenses, ranging from a pastor to a musician, while slum communities are even more economically depressed. He said while President Weah continues to live in his make-believe world, the ship of state is increasingly rudderless, describing Liberia as an airplane that is on auto-pilot—flying by itself.
Ambassador Brown made the strong-worded statement on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at the headquarters of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) when he announced a mass peaceful rally, dubbed, “We Tiyah Suffering!”, to be held on December 17, 2022.
President Weah is currently out of the country, expected back after the Biden Summit, which will be held between December 13—15, 2022—that is if the United States does not make it to the grand finals of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, as he was captured bidding his son, Timothy Weah, farewell and promising to return to Qatar if his team makes it to the final.
The possibility is that the Liberian Leader may be greeted by a mass protest after his 45 days abroad, which observers have termed as a troubling sign for his second-term bid come 2023’s general and presidential elections.
It is being rumored that the United States may announce the second batch of sanctions for the Weah government before the end of December. If the sanctions are announced, coupled with the planned demonstration, the electorate could be left to wonder where the political future lies—give President Weah a second chance or find an alternative to solve the problem.
In his announcement of the planned mass rally, Brown said the rally will be led by the CPP, a party headed by Alexander B. Cummings and once seen as the major contender against the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC). He said the peaceful rally of Liberians will bring together parties, groups and individuals from all walks and stations of Liberian life seeking to express the suffering of the people of Liberia.
He underscored that Liberians are tired suffering, noting that the echoes are everywhere; as such, they have a duty to help them peacefully express this to the Weah administration, which they will happily do.
However, the former information minister pointed out that the upcoming rally is not for those who are not suffering. “We do not expect that they will like it or be happy that those who are tired suffering want to be heard. However, we expect that those with the duty to protect those who are tired suffering and wish to peacefully express it will faithfully and honorably do their jobs. We expect that they will protect all Liberians, especially on December 17,” he added.
Ambassador Brown declared that the “We Tiyah Suffering” rally is a plea to President Weah’s “failed, wasteful and disappointing” administration to care about what the Liberian people are living through and feeling every day, and a cry for the President and his administration to be more accountable and stop being wasteful.
