–Foreign Ministry Provides Answers

Liberia seeks non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council to contribute to global peace and security, particularly in Africa, and to enhance collaboration between the UN and regional bodies. Specially, Liberia aims to leverage its experience in conflict mediation, prevention and post-conflict reconstruction to address challenges in Africa and the Sahel. Additionally, Liberia seeks to strengthen multilateralism and promote a more inclusive and Representative UN Security Council, particularly reflecting the needs of Africa.

African Representation:

Liberia, like many African nations, seeks to address the historical underrepresentation of Africa in the Security Council, both in terms of permanent and non-permanent seats. Liberia Africa, with its significant population and UN membership, deserves a greater voice.

Advocating for African Needs:

Liberia aims to use its Security Council seat to promote Africa’s interest, including development, climate change, and other pressing issues.

Promoting peace and security:

Liberia’s experience with civil war and its subsequent post-war reconstruction efforts informs its commitment to peace and security. Liberia wants to share her experience to contribute resolving conflicts regionally and globally.

Leveraging its experience:

Liberia’s post-war reconstruction experience provides valuable lessons for other countries facing similar challenges. Liberia wants to share this expertise and contribute to peace building efforts worldwide.

Global solidarity:

Liberia believes in the importance of global solidarity and working together for peace and security. Liberia wants to be a part of the solution to globally challenges, including those facing developing nations.

Historical injustice:

Liberia has highlighted the injustice of Africa’s historical marginalization in the Security Council. We believe that the council needs to reflect the realities of the 21st century and include more voices from Africa.

Previous experience as a Non-Permanent Member:

Liberia has previous served on the Security Council and has demonstrated its ability to contribute effectively to the council’s work.

Long history of UN involvement:

Liberia has been a UN member since its founding and actively participates in UN activities, including peace keeping operations.

Contributions to peacekeeping:

Liberia has participated in UN peace keeping missions, contributing significantly to regional stability and peace efforts.
