Christiana Winnie Saywah-Jimmy has formally been named Managing Editor of The Inquirer Newspaper, published by the New Era Publications Corporation. She was appointed by the Board of Directors and Shareholders of the paper.

In a letter dated Tuesday, January 3, 2023, the Board said “We present our compliments and to inform you that the Board is herewith appointing you as Managing Editor of the Inquirer Newspaper.”

It continued, “We are pleased to appoint you to this very important position of national and international significance because you have proven to be competent, reliable, and willing to learn, since you assumed the mantle of Acting Managing Editor, when the late Attorney Philip N. Wesseh, became seriously ill in 2021.”

As the Managing Editor, the Board added, “Your primary responsibility is to provide over all administrative and editorial leadership of The INQUIRER Newspaper. This responsibility includes managing the administrative, editorial, and financial affairs of the entity, in keeping with the policies and programs as envisioned by the Board for the progress of the Institution.”

The Board pointed out that Saywah-Jimmy is also required to submit quarterly report to the Board, as well as annual report at the end of every year. In keeping with the Board’s established policy, the reports from The Inquirer Management should cover the financial, administrative or operational activities of the entity.

The Board of Directors and Shareholders stated that the management is required to also report to the Board and seek approval on any critical matter affecting the financial affairs and operation of the entity. For effective operation of The INQUIRER Newspaper, the letter under the signature of Gabriel I. H. Williams, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Shareholders, said the Managing Editor is required to submit to the Board a management plan that you (Managing Editor) intend to execute as Managing Editor to elevate the entity.

“A very important part of the immediate plan must include positioning The Inquirer Newspaper to be more competitive online,” the letter noted.

Saywah-Jimmy began at The Inquirer in 2001 as an intern from the International School of Journalism under the Liberia Broadcasting System. She was then assigned at the Legislature, where she was awarded as Best Legislative Reporter in 2008. She was then assigned at the Judiciary and interchangeably she covered the Executive.

Winnie’s assignment cut across from gender to agriculture onwards to transport, health, finance, post, information and human rights as well as politics, thereby giving her vast knowledge on how to cover and

report news. She then rose to being an associate reporter and later editor.

In her quest to explore professionalism, Saywah-Jimmy left the Inquirer Newspaper and was employed at Gender Ministry, though at some point of her professional sojourn she served the Ministry of Agriculture as Communications Consultant and the Insight Newspaper.

The Managing Editor is the Vice President of the Female Journalists Association of Liberia, a media trainer and mentor who served as head of the Press Union of Liberia membership under two past leaderships.

She is a graduate of the University of Liberia with a BA in English Literature and a diploma in Mass Communication.
