Two youth in Ganta, Nimba County, who reportedly gang raped a woman believed to be in her 60s, have been arrested by the Liberia National Police (LNP) and forwarded to court for prosecution.

Roland Suah and Romeo Markagbo, who allegedly committed the act on September 26, 2025, were arrested after the LNP launched a full-scale investigation into the matter and a manhunt to apprehend them.

Meanwhile, the Liberia National Police (LNP) has disclosed the arrest of both suspects in the alleged gang rape, and turned them over to the court.

According to the LNP, one of the suspects, Suah, has confirmed to be the son of patrolman Samuel Suah, who is currently under investigation by the Professional Standards Department for allegedly obstructing the arrest process.

The Liberia National Police assured the public that this case is being handled with professionalism, and complete impartiality, and condemned all forms of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).

In a related development, The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has expressed its deepest dismay and condemnation of the appalling gang rape of the 65-year-old woman that occurred on September 26, 2025, in Hope Village, Ganta City, Nimba County.

According to the Gender Ministry, the 65-year-old survivor was brutally violated by the culprits. The ministry, through its County Gender Office in Nimba, has been actively coordinating with law enforcement, health, and psychosocial service providers to ensure that the survivor gets comprehensive support and that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The ministry commended all partners and the Liberia National Police (LNP) for their swift action, and called for speedy investigation and prosecution of all individuals involved in this heinous act.

In another disturbing case, the ministry reports that a 2-year-old girl was raped by a 25-year-old housemate in Sanniquellie City, Nimba County. The survivor has since been discharged from the hospital, and the perpetrator has been sentenced to 25-year imprisonment at the Sanniquellie Central Prison.
