The Publisher of the Hot Pepper, Mr. Philipbert S. Browne, has said that Liberia is on the verge of self-destruct, noting that no country prospers with the level of indiscipline seen in Liberia. He noted that the parents are fully responsible for what the country is going through.

According to him, nowadays parents fail miserably in grooming their children in morality and good conduct. “What are we teaching our children? The golden word, ‘Thank you’, no longer exists. When you give children money…they are not even able to say ‘thank you’,” Mr. Browne added.

He made the state on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at the First Baptist Church, Oldest Congo Town, while paying tribute to his late mother, Deacon Winifred Euphemia Johnson, during her funeral service.

“The lady you see lying here was our drill sergeant. Our whole growth was regimented—straight adherence to discipline. There was no joke and no bending the rules,” Browne stated of his late mother.

He urged the women of Liberia to produce more of Deacon Winifred Johnson, who was a complete disciplinarian.

Reading the life-sketch of Deacon Winifred Euphemia Smith Johnson, her grandson, Archibald Browne, son of Mr. Browne, recounted that she was a woman of great fortitude, and that the year 1980 proved to be a trial for the sustenance of her family. “The April 12, 1980 coup d’etat saw a downturn for the economies of the family as her husband, Joseph Johnson, who became Assistant Director for Administration at the Special Security Service (SSS), a new name of the National Intelligence Security Service (NISS), was imprisoned by the military junta, People’s Redemption Council (PRC), leaders of the 1980 coup d’etat, and without employment after his release from prison, and bank accounts frozen. Winifred was left with an extended family household of fifteen (15) to sustain. Sis. Winnie, as she was affectionately called, and her husband had all of their kids in some of the most expensive private schools: Gertrude, Wilfred and Leona attending Monrovia College (MC), Philipbert and Jah, St. Patrick’s High School, and Wede and Wedeo, J.J. Roberts United Methodist School.”

Interment took place in her home, Marshall City, Margibi County, followed by a repast.
