former CBL Deputy Governor for Operation, Charles Sirleaf

The Movement for the Restoration of Accountability and Transparency in Liberia (MORAT) is calling on authorities of the Liberia National Police (LNP) to expeditiously conclude on-going investigation into a complaint of missing monies from the accounts of Charles E. Sirleaf at the Guaranty Trust (GT) Bank.

It was reported over two months ago in the media that Charles E. Sirleaf complained to the police that his United States dollars and Liberian dollars accounts at GT Bank were depleted in the amounts of US$850,000 and L$10 million, respectively.

The police began an investigation of Sirleaf’s complaint by inviting persons of interests, including Sirleaf’s account officer, GT Bank employee Andrea Duobah. Voluntary statements were extracted from the persons of interest, but strangely to best and acceptable practices the police has failed to conclude its investigation.

“Given the sensitivity of Sirleaf’s complaint coupled with its human rights and transparency and accountability undertone, the Movement for the Restoration of Accountability and Transparency in Liberia (MORAT) will use this medium to call on Police Director, Col. Patrick Sudue, to ensure that the prolonged investigation is concluded and forwarded to court for immediate adjudication,” MORAT said.
