Christian Revival Church Association (CRCA), in partnership with the First Baptist Church of Arnold and the Missouri Baptist University, has ended a three-day intensive training in Helping Babies Survive (HBS), which is an initiative of American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and developed in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Speaking upon returned from Gbarpolu County, CRCA’s Project Coordinator, Yassah Johnson David, said the trainees were lectured on the topic, “Helping Babies Survive (HBS)”.

She said the just-ended midwifery training was conducted by the CRCA and its partners, along with the Gbarpolu County health team.

David noted that the trainees were taught helping babies breathe neonatal techniques and resuscitation, which are meant to reduce neonatal mortality.

She said the training included scientific updates to harmonize with 2015 ILCOR consensus on science with treatment recommendation, and the 2012 WHO basic newborn resuscitation guideline.

According to her, the midwifery training was a part of the CRCA’s commitment to addressing issues confronting the forward match of Liberia.

She said the CRCA is a holistic ministry, which provides physical and spiritual solutions to societal issues in Liberia.

David noted that nurses who attended the training were certificated at the end of the training.

For her part, the team leader of the twelve-man delegation from the United States of America, Shannon Hamilton, praised her development partner, CRCA, for their support in reaching out to people in West Africa.

Commenting on the training, Hamilton noted that the training addresses the three most common causes of preventable neonatal complications from childbirth and neonatal infections. According to her, the training was designed to improve clinical practices across system of care.
