Liberian Students In Cyprus Announce Calendar Of Events For July 26 Celebration

Leadership of Liberian students in Cyprus

The leadership of the Liberian Students Association in Northern Cyprus has announced its calendar of events leading to the celebration of July 26, 2022.

   According to the LSANC President, Brutus Hunder, his leadership has organized a sports jamboree for July 25, 2022 and an indoor ceremony for the main celebration on July 26, 2022.

   He said the leadership of the LSANC has invited Selahattin Yilmaz, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Liberia to Istanbul, Turkey, as keynote speaker during the celebration.

   He stated that the sports jamboree and the indoor event were meant to awaken the spirit of patriotism among Liberian students abroad.

   Hunder noted that Liberian students studying in Northern Cyprus want Liberians at home to unite in fostering unity and the protection of the country’s peace for development and prosperity for all.

   The leadership of the Liberian Students Association in Northern Cyprus applauded the CDC-led government for sustaining the peace and development in the country.

   At the same time, the leadership of the LSANC has informed the Hot Pepper that additional two Liberian students, Martino Gbassana and Mac Arthur Kpogbah, were arrested and detained on July 7, 2022 for allegedly opening shops. The leadership said, according to police report in Northern Cyprus, they were charged for theft and deliberate damage. The two Liberian student suspects later sold the stolen items to another Liberian, who was also caught and imprisoned for aiding in crime.

   This brings to five the numbers of Liberian students involved in problem in Northern Cyprus. Currently, four Liberian students are being held in prison pending their court trials.

   The students leadership of Northern Cyprus are pleading with students studying in Cyprus to avoid any situation that will damage the image of Liberia, and also called on the government of Cyprus for fair trial in the four students’ cases.

   According to the leadership, there is rumor about some female Liberian students involved in prostitution in Northern Cyprus. The information, according to the students leadership, is false and misleading and those behind the fake news should desist immediately.

   The leadership commented on lots of national and international issues confronting Liberian students in Northern Cyprus, but ended as calling on Liberians at home and abroad to join the fight for development and prosperity for the country.
