Citizens of Rivercess County are patiently awaiting answers to numerous petitions calling on the former lawmaker, Bill Twehway, to contest the county’s senatorial seat in October 2023’s general and presidential election. Many voters in the county seem to be in high gear to usher in the political icon as their senator during the electoral process.
Twehway’s preferment for the prestigious elective position is based on wide spread conviction in the county that he will influence government to resurrect the poverty-stricken county if elected senator.
Rivercess County is one of the poorest sections of Liberia. The lack of improved road network and social services has pushed its population harder into poverty. Voters see Bill Twehway, an influential political figure in government, and the business community as a solution to the county’s multiple problems.
Twehway, who is also Managing Director of the National Port Authority (NPA), is known everywhere in Rivercess as the elephant, not because of his built but for what he is capable of doing in political circles. “Our son can move mountain,” an elderly opinion leader tried to associate the aspirant’s might to the huge tasks ahead.
Speaking in Cesto City recently, the elderly man said Bill Twehway’s ascendency will create the opportunity for the county to excel to the ranks of other counties in Liberia.
Sayou disclosed that River cess is prepared to vote for President George M. Weah in the election in 2023. He maintained that, with George Weah as President and Bill Twehway as Senator their prayer for development will be answered.
A similar opinion was reechoed by other Rivercess opinion leaders and stakeholders during four days of random sampling of opinions in the county.
Despite this huge show of support, Bill Twehway, alias the elephant is yet to answer to the call of his people to contest. “Our only disappointment is Twehway’s reluctance in answering to our request,” a prominent Rivercess youth activist based in Monrovia told the Hot Pepper’s reporter on Capitol Hill, Monrovia, recently.
He emphasized that the youth of Rivercess see the election of the experienced former representative as a political victory for their poor county. Moses Gebro pointed out that he is convinced that the mighty elephant, who is currently reviewing the various petitions, will soon respond to the call of Rivercess citizens. “It will be a joyous occasion,” he stated.
Bill Twehway, also known as Gbekugbe junior, is an influential political figure in Liberia with huge following, both at home and on social media. He began as an educator and rose to the rank of representative in the House of Representatives.
