The National Elections Commission (NEC), through its Gender Section, on Thursday, August 25, 2022 commenced a two-day roundtable discussion with senior executives of political parties in Montserrado County at a local center in Monrovia. Mainly attending the meeting are heads of women and youth departments of political parties.
The UN Women and partners, governments of Sweden and Ireland are providing funds for the roundtable discussion, under the theme, “Implementing the Rule of Law while Promoting Inclusiveness in Elections and Politics”.
A NEC statement issued Thursday emphasized that ensuring the implementation of Section 4.5 of the 2014 Electoral Reform Law, captioned, “Nomination for Candidates”, and the development of an action plan for the 2023 general and presidential elections are the focal point of the discussion.
Last week, the Gender Section of NEC and key partners, including the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Electoral Support Office in Liberia, concluded a two-day roundtable discussion in Kakata, Margibi County. At the event, the NEC Commissioner responsible for Gender, Josephine Kou Gaye, officially launched the roundtable discussion and spoke about the need to promote gender equity in elections.
