The Chief Executive Officer of Stop Drugs Liberia, Daniel B. Yegba, has disclosed that Liberia is under attack from illicit drugs.
According to Yegba, illicit drugs are in communities through ghettoes across the country.
Yegba made the disclosure Monday at a program against Illicit drugs and child abuse in observance of World Drug Day. The launch of Stop Drugs Liberia was held at the Ford Maiden Christian Academy on Smythe Road.
He noted that illicit drugs in the communities across the nation is posing a serious threat to young people, and the organization is intended to educate the young people in schools to prevent and protect them against illicit drug abuse in Liberia.
He emphasized that the organization will organize students to create awareness about the danger of illicit drugs within the schools and their communities.
Yegba asserted that the young people of Liberia desire a better future, and they should be informed about the danger of illicit drugs on their future.
He maintained that the young people and youth should be aware that illicit drugs can damage their future, noting that other young people are currently dying from drug abuse.
Meanwhile, the Dean for the School of Pharmacy, University of Liberia, Dr. Ezekiel F. Hallie, said there is need to empower the security sector to prevent illicit drugs from entering Liberia. Dr. Hallie stated that the prevention of illicit drugs from entering Liberia will save the young people. According to him, if illicit drugs continue to enter the country, drug abuse among the young people will be difficult to prevent.
He underscored that empowering the security sector will go a long way in curtailing the huge amount of illicit drugs around the nation.
