Cllr. Tiawon Saye Gongloe, Standard Bearer of the Liberian People’s Party (LPP), has openly asserted that, if elected at the October 10, 2023 general and presidential elections his government will prosecute corrupt officials and subsequently incarcerate them.
Cllr. Gongloe, a human rights lawyer, made the assertion Tuesday, September 12, 2023 when he addressed his supporters and admirers in Gwekpolosue Town, Margibi County.
Gongloe mentioned that if any of his ministers is found corrupt he or she will be fired, arrested and arraigned before a competent court of jurisdiction, observing that if the culprit is established culpable of the crime beyond all reasonable doubt he will face the full weight of the law.
“If a minister of my government steals and goes to jail, other ministers in the same government will be afraid to steal. By so doing I will be able to sweep corruption in Liberia,” Cllr. Gongloe said.
The rights advocate indicated that, while he leads the nation as President, his government will develop a comprehensive strategy aimed at ensuring that a database is developed where ministers, directors of agencies and corporations will be compelled to allow their salaries to be placed on the internet so that the people of Liberia can know how much each of them earns. He said this will be a benchmark for transparency and good governance.
He further told his supporters in Gwekpolosue, a town located in Western Liberia, that his administration will ensure that pupils from grade 1 to grade 12 go to school free of charge, which he pointed out will serve as a bedrock for the development of a new generation capable of becoming self-reliant.
He continued that, under his administration the 15 counties of Liberia of will benefit from trade schools. This, he said, will encourage the young people in these areas to learn different skills to form part of a middle-class working population.
“Under my administration, children from grade 1 to 12 will go to school free of charge. I will also ensure that free trade schools are established in the 15 counties to help young folks who cannot read and write to grow,” Cllr. Gongloe said.
