The leadership of the Liberian Nurses Association (LNA), headed by Benjamin O. Suamey, has completed phase one of its nationwide county tour in Liberia. Counties recently visited by the LNA leadership are Bong, Nimba and Grand Bassa.

The objective of the tour, according to information, was to ascertain the pressing issues confronting the wellbeing of nurses in the rural parts of the country.

The LNA team used their visit to educate nurses in rural Liberia on the importance of the New Health Law, particularly the potion that says, “In order to be a County Health Officer one must be a clinician with public health specialties”, because the 1976 Public Health Law states that only a medical doctor was to serve as County Health Officer and Health Minister.

The LNA leadership told nurses of the three counties that they have embarked on the construction of the association’s headquarters in Margibi County. The LNA team also visited hospitals in those counties.

During the tour, there were series of meetings with nurses. At the meetings, nurses informed the LNA leadership about the issues confronting their well-being in rural Liberia, which included salary deduction by the Government of Liberia (GOL).

In response, the LNA leadership promised to work along with the government and partners in addressing the challenges confronting the LNA members.
