Bong County’s district #5 Representative, Eugene J.M. Kollie, has requested that the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning inform the House of Representatives on the Unity Party government’s plan to de-harmonize civil servants’ salaries, which wereharmonized as a result of a policy of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) administration.
The Bong County lawmaker’s request was contained in a letter addressed to the House Speaker, J. Fonati Koffa, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 during the first extraordinary day sitting of the first session of the House of Representatives of the 55th National Legislature.
Representative Kollie said the issue regarding civil servants’ welfare and benefits should be prioritized by the government and, therefore, the plan needs to be known in line with the current draft fiscal budget.
The House’s Committee on Lands, Mines, Energy, Natural Resources and Environment communication further requested for the appearance of the Minister in order for him to address the de-harmonization issue raised by civil servants.
He emphasized that the welfare of government workers,especially civil servants, needs to be the concern of all,mainly lawmakers because they are directly representing the people across the country.
The Bong Legislator’s letter places specific emphasis on health workers, whom he described as a national concern.
Following the reading of the communication, a motion was proffered by Nimba County’s district #2 Representative, Nyan Flomo, to forward the letter to the House’s Joint Committee on Ways, Means and Finance and Public Accounts and Expenditures to act on promptly since the 2024 draft fiscal budget is undergoing scrutiny.
