The Chairman of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Mulbah K. Morlu, has hailed Foreign Minister, H.E. Dee – Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., for transforming the ministry, restoring the dignity of the country’s passport and making it affordable.

During a courtesy tour at the Ministry on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, the ruling party Chairman expressed excitement at Minister Kemayah’s work since taking over as Minister of Foreign Affairs, saying he is impressed by the progressive attributes of the Minister and members of his staff at the ministry.

“See how affordable our passport has become and see the dignity of the passport being restored. That’s specifically important because, without respectable traveling documents, you wouldn’t be able to interact with the rest of the world as a country,” Chairman Morlu said.

According to Chairman Morlu, during the courtesy tour he sat in Foreign Minister Kemayah’s office and witnessed, via CCTV, all the interactions within the Passport Department, describing the transformation there as historic.

“We are very much impressed by the progressive attributes of the Minister and members of his staff here at the ministry,” Chairman Morlu said.

He indicated that the headquarters of the ruling CDC is excited that there are ministers of government, starting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is burdened with the desire and urge of H.E. President George Manneh Weah achieving his announced agenda within the confines of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“I was also very proud for the first time in decades to have seen how digitized the passport section has become and how transparently accountable it has been transformed,” Morlu said further.

“And so we also want to say thank you to the President for being very farsighted to appoint Minister Kemayah and members of his staff. Beyond that, see how young people are beginning to gain access to training opportunities within the ministry—the Protocol Team, the team has changed,” he said.

According to Morlu, the reception he received at the ministry at different entry points is impressive, adding that he thinks the government is in line with ensuring that there is marriage between activities of the ministry and the President’s agenda.

Morlu indicated that one of the most important pillars of governance within the confines of government’s initiative is to ensure international respect for national documents is accelerated.

In the midst of previous challenges that existed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, compared to what is now being achieved, the dignity that has been given the Liberian passport, Chairman Morlu said, does not only speak to the quality of work Minister Kemayah has brought to the Ministry but also the quality of governance that President Weah has transmitted in the governance atmosphere.

“So I want to call on Minister Kemayah and others to remain steadfast and focused because change must not be taken lightly. Sometimes beneficiaries of change themselves will from the beginning reject change. No change comes easy,” he added.

According to him, for the first time in 173 years, Liberia has a President that has aggressively tackled national development problems.

Giving a background of his visit, Chairman Morlu said he has initiated a routine visitation to state institutions in view of President George Manneh Weah’s announced agenda to transform the country, which has to be scrupulously implemented by government functionaries.

He said he went to pay courtesy to Minister Kemayah, adding that while on the courtesy tour he went to assess the level of progress that has been initiated since he took over as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

He commended the Minister and all his staff for their support, calling on them to work together as a team to ensure that the President’s agenda is scrupulously implemented.

In the wake of this new development at the Foreign Ministry, Chairman Morlu urged the Ministry’s Public Affairs Department to talk more about the things that are taking place at the ministry. “If you don’t say these things, people would not know what you are doing,” Chairman Morlu observed.
