The Ghanaian authorities have pledged comprehensive security for the repatriation process of 1,539 Liberians, starting May 2024. Additionally, the Ghanaian government has requested traditional leaders to provide temporary shelter for the affected Liberians at the Buduburam Camp, suspending all court proceedings related to trespassing until May 30, 2024.

Moreover, Ghana, in collaboration with UNHCR Ghana, will grant resident permits to locally integrated Liberians, a move welcomed by the Liberian government. Furthermore, the Liberian delegation has arranged for the distribution of assorted food items to support the refugees during their temporary stay.

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai recently dispatched a delegation to Ghana, headed by Cllr. Jeddi Armah, Deputy Minister for Legal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affair, to ensure smooth facilitation of the repatriation process for Liberian nationals who previously resided at the Budumburam camp in Ghana, where their houses were destroyed. While seeking temporary shelter, the Liberians were taken to court for eviction by the Gomoa East Assembly.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the LRRRC have been working diligently as directed by the President to ensure a permanent solution for the Liberians.
