Free Thinkers Detests Sen. Konneh’s Outburst On Min. Grigsby
The Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia has described as unreasonable, diabolical, derogatory and willful attempt by Senator Amara Konneh to malign and defame the reputation of the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Sylvester Grigsby.
“While we encourage separation of power and check and balances between and amongst the three branches of government as enshrined in Article 3 of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia, it is important to note that said check and balances must be void of the spread of misinformation,” the Free Thinkers said in a press release.
The release said, “Senator Amara Konneh’s recent communication to Senate Pro Temp, Hon. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, in which he made calls for the resignation and subsequent prosecution of the Minister of State, Hon. Sylvester Grigsby, speaks volumes to the senator’s flagrant disrespect for the rule of law. The Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia is shocked and dismayed that Senator Amara Konneh will ignore one of his cardinal legislative responsibilities of oversight by not inviting the Minister of State, Hon. Grigsby, and NASSCORP’s Director General, Hon. Dewitt vonBallmoos, in the first instance before writing and making frivolous calls for the resignation and prosecution of Hon. Grigsby.
“What crime has Minister Grigsby committed by simply requesting NASSCORP to assist through its corporate social responsibility to purchase five SUVs to mitigate the embarrassment that would have befallen the inauguration of President Joseph N. Boakai due to shortage of vehicles to convey international quests?”
According to the release, “Hon Grigsby’s request to NASSCORP violates no law, and is squarely in line with the entity’s corporate social responsibility. The Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers will therefore call on Senator Amara Konneh to refrain from acts that have the proclivity of imputing negatively on the image of the Liberian Senate. Without any form of preliminary investigation to establish the facts concerning the purchase of the SUVs, by what means will Minister Grigsby be prosecuted in the words of Senator Konneh?
“The Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia will use this medium to state for the record that President Joseph N. Boakai made an excellent decision to appoint Hon. Sylvester Grigsby as Minister of State due to his proven records, which speak highly of his stance on accountability, transparency and good governance.
“Finally, the Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia is calling on Senate Pro Temp, Hon. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, to return Senator Amara Konneh’s communication requesting the resignation and subsequent prosecution of Minister Sylvester Grigsby because it lacks any basis in fact.”
