All road lead to Foya District, Lofa County, for the commencement convocation of the first recruits of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) trained at the Joseph N. Boakai Training Academy this weekend.

According to LIS Acting Commissioner General, Elijah F. Rufus, all is now set by the Government of Liberia (GOL) to graduate the 500 trained recruits at the training academy in Foya, Lofa County.

The recruits have been trained in basic immigration formalities for six weeks. The five hundred recruits were trained to replace the over three hundred old officers of the LIS who were earmarked by the Civil Service Agency (CSA) for retirement this year.

Providing information to newsmen on December 3, 2024 at the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing held on Capitol Hill, Monrovia, the LIS Acting boss reaffirmed LIS commitment in protecting Liberia from illegal entry and other crimes within the western region.

He said following the recruits’ graduation, plans are underway by the LIS administration to deploy them across the country.

The LIS Acting Commissioner General noted that his team has concluded discussion with the government for the salary payments of the recruits beginning 2025 budget year.

He said upon the recruits’ graduation on December 7, 2024, the LIS will begin the distribution of the uniform set and other working materials for the new officers.

Rufus used the MICAT platform to applaud the government for its support given the LIS to conduct training of new recruits during the time when it necessary to fill in the gaps of manpower created by CSA retirement plan.

According to information, the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Oswald Tweh, will grace the occasion and serve as the occasion’s keynote speaker.
