Family members of Edith Gongloe-Weh speaking to the press

Family members of the Collaborating Political Party (CPP) candidate, Edith Gongloe Weh, are calling on her to back off from further court proceedings on the December 8 midterm senatorial election results, which the National Elections Commission (NEC) has declared Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) candidate, Jeremiah K. Koung, the winner.

Addressing reporters on Sunday, February 28, 2021 in Paynesville, a brother to Gongloe-Weh, Evans Gongloe, called on stakeholders, the Christian community, elders and youths of Nimba to join them in talking to Weh to forget about the case currently before NEC Board of Commissioners, congratulate Representative Koung and move on with the county’s development. Gongloe told reporters that Weh has refused to listen to family members’ advise not to go to court on the December 8 election results.

He emphasized that since Gongloe-Weh has failed to listen to advise from family members, it is about time for others to get involved by talking to her to drop the on-going court proceedings. According to him, the decision of Gongloe-Weh to always go to court after election results are announced is wrong and is negatively affecting the Gongloe family. “Election is over, let the madam forget about everything and work with the Senator-elect, Jeremiah Koung, in the name of unity,” he observed.

Gongloe-Weh’s brother explained that Nimba is their only common denominator and, therefore, election result should not be the cause for disunity among the people of Nimba. He emphasized that the people of Nimba have spoken, and so the decision of the majority need to be respected, no matter what the condition may be. He urged his sister to be patient and wait for her time instead of fighting a losing battle, which will negatively affect the family.

For her part, Kou Monbah said she campaigned for her sister, Edith Gongloe-Weh, across the county and, again, voted her in the December 8 midterm senatorial election; so, the call from them for her to back off from any court proceedings is holistic and in the interest of the county. According to her, the decision of Gongloe-Weh to always run to court after election results are announced is causing division within the county. She pointed out that her sister Edith is overly qualified to do other jobs besides the senator job.
