The Vice Chairperson for Administration of the Liberty Party (LP) and Montserrado County’s district #1 Representative, Rugie Yatu Barry, has automatically assumed the position of National Chairperson of the party after the resignation of Chairman Musa Hassan Bility.

According to a press release issued by the Liberty Party (LP) on September 25, 2024, Barry’s chairmanship comes at a time the party has initiated a national reconciliation process, currently in process, through a Joint Reconciliation Committee (JRC) set up by both the former Chairman, Musa Hassan Bility, and Political Leader/Pro-Tempore, Nyonblee Kangar Lawrence. According to the release, the JRC is nearing the conclusion of phase one of its task, which constitutes signing of a resolution to guide the LP nationwide reconciliation process.

The release observed that the Executive Committee of the Liberty Party (LP) has notified members of its County Committee, Advisory Council, partisans and the public that Musa Hassan Bility has resigned as National Chairman and has withdrawn his membership from the party.

Bility’s resignation letter reads in part: “It is with a heavy heart that I today announce my resignation as National Chairman of the Liberty Party (LP) and withdraw my membership from LP. The last three and a half years have been the most satisfying, complex, and challenging adventure of my political career. It has been an incredible privilege to lead the LP National Executive Committee (NEC), and I have been blessed to have been a part of a group of people bound together by a commitment to build a political institution rooted in the principles of inclusive decision-making, democracy, and the rule of law.”

Meanwhile, the LP Executive Committee, on behalf of the party, thanked Bility for his service to the party and wished him well in his new ventures and opportunities he seeks in the political spectrum of the country.

The party assured all partisans, supporters and well-wishers that LP will continue to work through the Joint Reconciliation Committee under the Chairmanship of Rugie Yartu Barry to conclude the reconciliation process and take the party to a special national convention, as being proposed by the JRC.
