Nimba County’s district #2 Representative, Prince O.S. Tokpah, has written plenary of the House of Representatives of the 54th Legislature, seeking its prompt intervention into the recent disaster that took place in Paynesville, which reportedly killed several Liberians. Recently, the bodies of a graduate of the University of Liberia (UL), Nancy Miller, and seven other family members were discovered in their house following a graduation party.
The Miller’s family, which died in the house as the result of carbon monoxide from a generator, are believed to be citizens of Nimba County, especially district #2. Family members of Nancy who came for the graduation ceremony met their untimely death last week in Monrovia due to carbon monoxide from their generator.
“Honorable Speaker and distinguished colleagues: I present my compliments and regret to inform your good offices that Miss Nancy Miller, a graduate of the University of Liberia, along with seven others, met their untimely and tragic end on Thursday, February 25, 2021 morning when the graduate and seven family members suffocated as a result of carbon monoxide from a generator.
“Honorable Speaker and Distinguished colleagues, those eight persons who died in this painful and tragic incident are reported to have come from Nimba County’s district #2 and Bong County. We request a timely intervention of the National Disaster Management Agency of Liberia in this sad event. With sentiments of high esteem, I remain,” Representative Tokpah’s letter reads.
The Nimba lawmaker emphasized that the situation is serious and therefore needs the immediate assistance of the government through the Disaster Management Agency. As Representative of the district, Deputy Speaker Tokpah stated that he has visited the home of the bereaved family and will continue to seek assistance from any prominent citizens of the county and other humanitarian.
