LIS Officers Celebrate Col. Rufus’ Appointment At LIS; Say He’s One Of Them

Since the announcement from the Executive Mansion regarding the latest appointment of Colonel Elijah F. Rufus to the position as Commissioner General (U-300) of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), there have been excitement from officers of the LIS. According to many of them, Colonel Rufus is one of them who went through the ranks and files as a trained LIS officer, coupled with his good behavior displayed among them.

Since the announcement was made over the weekend, officers of the LIS have been excited, saying that one of them has been promoted by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

They believe that he understands issues confronting LIS’ growth and development. During his short stay as Acting CG, a lot of developmental transformations were undertaken by his administration.

Colonel Rufus served as one of the longest Chief of Office Staff to the office of the Commissioner General during the time of the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization (BIN) and the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), prior to the coming in of the Unity Party (UP) led- government.

His role over the period of twenty years at the BIN and the LIS was to assist the office of the Commissioner General in developing the institution policies, establishing and channeling communications to government ministries, agencies as well as diplomatic missions.

Colonel Rufus holds a bachelor of arts degree in sociology with emphasis in public administration, and is currently pursuing his master’s in public administration at the University of Liberia (UL) Graduate School.
