In a significant move to bolster support for refugees and vulnerable populations in Liberia, the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC), in collaboration with the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), has commenced a biometrical process to issue Resident Permits to 269 integrated former Ivorian refugees.

This initiative is in fulfillment of Executive Order 144, issued by His Excellency Joseph N. Boakai Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, on February 24, 2025.

The exercise began on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, with Joseph Boye Cooper, LRRRC Deputy Executive Director for Operations and Elijah F. Rufus, Commissioner General of the LIS, warmly welcoming the former Ivorian refugees.

The LIS staff enrolled the first set of candidates, successfully conducting their biometric registration.

This vital process will take place across Montserrado, Nimba, Grand Gedeh, and Maryland counties, ensuring that all eligible integrated former Ivorian refugees receive their resident permits.

With the issuance of these Resident Permits, former integrated Ivorian refugees will gain access to essential social services, including education, healthcare, and housing.

Additionally, the LRRRC will collaborate with the National Identification Registry (NIR) to ensure that all Ivorian refugees are enrolled in the national identification database, further facilitating their integration into Liberian society.

This initiative marks a pivotal step in enhancing the welfare of refugees in Liberia, fostering inclusivity, and promoting their rights as integral members of the community.
