More than 3,000 inhabitants of Victoria Island, Kpanwen Community, Lower Johnsonville, Montserrado County, said they want President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to intervene in the Victoria Island situation.

According to the Secretary General of the Victoria Island Kpanwen Community, Mowah Kpangbai Kollie, the community, which was established in 1999, is surrounded by water, and the road and bridge are in bad condition.

Secretary Kollie stated that the community lacks basic social services such as good road, clinic, good schools, good bridge and electricity. He said there are only two hand pumps for the community’s dwellers.

The secretary general made the disclosure over the weekend as the road and the bridge to enter the community are in such bad conditions that no car, motorcycle and “kehkeh” can reach the community.

According to him, the community’s dwellers are now risking their lives by using canoes to enter the community, which is risky for the safety of women and children.

He said the only road to the Victoria Island Kpanwen Community is the road heading toward the Chicken Soup Factory, which has become deplorable; as a result, sometimes pregnant women in pain die on the road.

He emphasized that the road leading to the Victoria Island Kpanwen Community has been in a deplorable condition over the years, and no representative or senator of the district and county has made any significant intervention to address the community’s problems.

He asserted that representative and senatorial aspirants only come for votes during presidential and legislative elections, but after election period the community is neglected in all its need for basic social services.

Secretary Kollie stated that the bad road condition poses serious challenges to pregnant women and others who are critically sick in the community.

According to him, the community has more than 200 houses, but the lack of basic social services is making life difficult for them, and they want President Boakai to intervene. He said they are suffering severely from such terrible living condition.

He underscored that the intervention of President Boakai will go a long way in transforming the living condition of the people in the Victoria Island Kpanwen Community.

Secretary Kollie maintained that the people of Victoria Island Kpanwen Community are appealing to the Liberian Leader to look in their direction as he embarks on his development initiatives in Monrovia and its environs, especially in Montserrado County. He said Victoria Island Kpanwen Community, which is adjacent Chicken Soup Factory Community, should be considered, observing that as the road project in Chicken Soup Factory is on-going an intervention on Victoria Island’s road and bridge will be highly appreciated by the people.
