A prominent Liberia, Sulaiman Renner, over the weekend launched a mass citizens movement geared towards promoting the agenda for ex-President George M. Weah’s return to the presidency come 2029 general and presidential elections.

The movement, named Sulaiman Renner’s Citizens Movement for Weah 2029, was officially launched on Saturday, September 13, 2025 in district #6, Paynesville, Montserrado County, bringing together several supporters, sympathizers and well-wishers of the former President, as well as members of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) and its ally political parties.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sulaiman Renner Citizens Movement for Weah 2029, Sulaiman Renner, expressed thanks and appreciation to the gathering. He openly announced that, as they look ahead to 2029 they declare with one voice that they stand firmly behind George Weah, not because he is perfect but because he has shown a heart for the people, a commitment to peace, and a record of laying foundations that Liberians must now build upon.

Renner disclosed that the movement was not created out of division or personal ambition, but out of a strong conviction that Liberia deserves unity, healing, and progress. “We have come together under one banner, the Renner Citizens’ Movement for Weah—because we believe in a reconciled Liberia, a nation where our differences do not weaken us, but instead strengthen us,” he stated.

He alleged that since the inception of the Boakai-Koung administration, there has been increase in extrajudicial or ritualistic killings without government launching comprehensive investigations, thereby fostering a climate of insecurity.

He said, “We have seen a government that has engaged into lavish and extremely useless spending, which include the President spending US$1.2 million on a luxurious LEXUS vehicle; engaged in constant violations of the laws of Liberia, including the Constitution; weaponized the Legislature against the Liberian people by illegally removing a seated Speaker; and engaged in massive corruption and abuse of power. But we say today: enough is enough!”

Renner maintained that the Renner Movement for Weah was established to bring people together, to reconcile their political family, and to rally behind a leader whose legacy has already shown them what is possible when love for country is placed above self.

According to him, during the six-year rule of the CDC, ex-President George Manneh Weah gave Liberia and Liberians many reasons to hope again, including demonstrating that leadership can be humble and accessible, bringing himself closer to the ordinary people than any leader before him; championing education by introducing the free tuition policy at public universities and colleges and giving thousands of young people, children of market women, taxi drivers, farmers and many others the chance to dream bigger.

He added that former President Weah invested in roads and infrastructure, opening communities that were once forgotten and reconnecting Liberians to one another. “He promoted peace, ensuring that during his administration Liberia remained stable and free from conflict, even at times when the political climate was tense. And above all, he reminded us that greatness is possible, not only on the world stage as a football icon, but also here at home, when we put Liberia first,” he added.

He emphasized that it is these acts of service and commitments to the ordinary people of Liberia that inspired them to form this movement. “We are not here just to support a man—we are here to support a vision: a vision of unity, reconciliation, and progress,” he added.

Meanwhile, the CEO of the Renner Citizens’ Movement for Weah 2029 has extended an olive branch to other political parties, informing them that the movement is not about division, but about reconciliation. “We invite you to join us because Liberia is bigger than any political party. Together, let us restore hope; let us unite our people; and let us prepare for a brighter, reconciled and prosperous Liberia under the leadership of George Manneh Weah in 2029,” he observed.
