AAUL Celebrates 104th Homecoming

The Alumni Association of the University of Liberia (AAUL) over the weekend celebrated its 104th Homecoming and Founders Day, held at the auditorium of the Capitol Hill campus in Monrovia.

   Speaking at the celebration, the President of AAUL, Atty. Martin W. Pennie, said the leadership of the association is encouraging graduates of the university to come around and help their alma mater.

   President Pennie stated that members of the association appreciates the university for over the years equipping them academically to contribute towards nation building.

   According to him, the association under his leadership is putting mechanism into place to track former graduates of the University of Liberia globally to have a database of alumnus and alumna to help in the process of upgrading the University of Liberia in post-war Liberia.

   He noted that more than 100,000 individuals have graduated from the University of Liberia and they are making significant impart nationally and internationally, but some of them are refusing to look back at their alma mater.

   President Pennie underscored that graduates of the University of Liberia should not just sit back and   observed what is happening at their alma mater without reaching out to the university to render some assistance to the current administration to transform the growth and development of the university.

   Meanwhile, the President of the University of Liberia, Dr. Layli Maparyan, said alumnus and alumna have a responsibility to shape their university positively in society, and Liberian alumni are no exception.

   Dr. Maparyan stated that graduates of the University of Liberia are the image of the university to the rest of the world, and at this critical time in the history of university alumni should contribute to its growth and transformation.

   She explained that AAUL’s leadership should always encourage current graduates to get involved with the association’s activities.

   She maintained that AAUL members have a major role to play to enhance the significant transformation of the University of Liberia in the years ahead.

   Dr. Maparyan emphasized that networking and collaborating among alumni should be strengthened to drive the association to another level of growth.

   The 104th Homecoming and Founders Day was held under the theme, “Consolidating UL Alumni in Unity to Support the University of Liberia”, which brought together alumni who are based in the United States of America to grace the celebration.
