River Gee County’s district #1 Representative, Alexander Poure, who recently crossed over to the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) during President George Weah’s visit to River Gee, has justified reasons for leaving the All Liberian Party (ALP), a member party of the Collaborating Political Party (CPP). CPP is a conglomeration of four political parties in Liberia, and is the major opposition party to the ruling administration of President Weah.
“I present my compliments, and am pleased to officially tender my resignation from the All Liberian Party (ALP) effective immediately and upon receipt of this letter. The decision to relinquish my membership is thoughtfully a personal one for which I sought consultations with my family, associates and constituents, and eventually have reached a decision to renounce and repudiate my membership henceforward,” Representative Poure’s letter reads.
“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the All Liberian Party (ALP) for my association and membership, which is reflective with the relationship we have built over the years, that will subsist indelible. I wish the ALP good luck in its future endeavors for national leadership,” Representative Poure’s resignation letter, a copy of which is in the possession of the Hot Pepper, observes.
Addressing reporters over the weekend on Capitol Hill, Representative Poure explained that the reason for his resignation is to closely work with his southeasterner brother, President George Weah, in order to carry out the needed development in that part of the country. He said the government in power now is a southeasterner government and, therefore, being opposition in this administration will undermine the plight of the southeasterners in term of development.
According to the former CPP lawmaker, his intention is to work alongside the President in transforming counties in the southeastern part of Liberia. He emphasized that counties in the southeastern part of Liberia are not developed and lack road connectivity. He vowed to ensure that CDC’s pro-poor agenda is fully implemented.
