A member of the Board of Governors at the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL), D. Sheba Brown, has called on the Government of Liberia (GOL) to see reason to prioritize Liberians’ medium and small businesses in the country.
Brown stated that it is important for the government and Liberians themselves throughout the country to begin now to promote Liberian-owned businesses.
The CBL former Deputy Governor recounted that when this government, headed by President George Manneh Weah, was taking over in 2017 he openly voiced out that Liberians would no longer be spectators in their own economy.
Brown made the call on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 in Monrovia when she served as chief launcher during the official launch of the Waste and Clean Sanitation Staffing Services (WACSS).
The CBL former Deputy Governor emphasized that Liberians over the years have been striving to take over the economy of the country, reminding that for too long the economy of the country has been controlled by foreign nationalities. She lamented that nothing has been done by past leaders to put the situation under control.
Brown appealed to this current leadership, head by President Weah, to now start giving contracts to Liberians’ small businesses rather than foreign nationalities.
The CBL former Deputy Governor said she wants the government to work in partnership with the Liberia Business Association (LBA) to promote small businesses in the country. According to her, if Liberians’ small businesses are supported they could even perform beyond those of foreign nationals.
She, at the same time, hailed the CEO of WACSS, Thomas Jardiah, for coming back from the United States of America to establish a business to provide jobs for Liberians.
Brown described the move made by the WACSS boss as in the right direction, and called on other Liberians in USA to come back home to emulate his good example.
