The National Elections Commission (NEC) and the National Identification Registry (NIR) Monday held a one-day meeting in support of collaboration between the two institutions in furtherance of achieving the mandate of the NIR, supported by the NEC.

Both NEC Chairperson, Cllr. Davidetta Browne Lansanah, and the Executive Director of NIR, Teah Nagbe, committed their institutions to continued information-sharing, and pledged to work out the modalities that will lead to strengthening the NIR in its data collection process.

The National Identification Registry, established in 2011, seeks to design, establish, maintain and administer a national biometric identification system in Liberia, whereas NEC is by law mandated to conduct voter registration in Liberia for the conduct of free, fair and transparent elections in Liberia.

The meeting with the NIR is a further manifestation of the NEC’s desire to continue collaboration with NIR and other related agencies.
