IRCL COVID-19 Mobilizers In Training

The Inter-Religious Council of Liberia (IRCL), a conglomeration of the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) and the National Muslim Council of Liberia (NMCL) with support from UNICEF, has joined government in its fight against the Coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Quite recently, the IRCL, at its office in Monrovia, launched a COVID-19 project with focus on faith-based action to combat the pandemic in Liberia. The project is supported and funded by UNICEF.

The launch of the IRCL’s COVID-19 project was graced by Laila O. Gud, UNICEF Representative to Liberia, alongside Bishop Dr. Kortu K. Brown, President of IRCL, stated Attorney Sheikh Musa Bamba, Secretary General of the Council.

As a means of further buttressing the government’s fight against COVID-19, the IRCL, under its Coronavirus project, on Thursday, June 18, 2020 simultaneously conducted workshops in Montserrado, Bong, Grand Bassa, Grand Gedeh, Grand Kru, Nimba, Maigibi and Bomi counties, he disclosed.

“The IRCL COVID-19 training workshop for the 510 mobilizers was facilitated by a team from the Ministry of Health, National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) and IRCL Project Management Team,” stated Attorney Bamba.

During the official kick-off of the IRCL’s COVID-19 Project workshop training session, held at the Lutheran Church of Liberia Compound in Monrovia on Thursday, June 18, IRCL President, Bishop Dr. Kortu K. Brown, hailed UNICEF for its continued support to the council, especially in times like these when the pandemic has hit the world, with Liberia being no exception.

Bishop Dr. Brown used the occasion to admonish the 510 IRCL COVID-19 mobilizers who were recruited, including Pastors, imams, women and youths to keep safe in the discharge of their duties in areas of assignment and teach the citizenry about the preventive measures to combat COVID-19.

As the Hot Pepper was about to go to bed, it was hinted by credible sources within the corridors of the IRCL that the 510 COVID-19 mobilizers under its UNICEF-supported project have been finally deployed in the eight designated counties in Liberia.

At the same time, the IRCL Executive Committee has extended appreciation to UNICEF for the support/cooperation. The IRCL also called on religious leaders to display more commitment in the fight against COVID-19 by their action of fully adhering to health regulations relating to the disease.
