In an effort to minimize fire disasters across the country, the Government of Liberia (GOL) has completed the bidding process of procuring for the Liberia National Fire and Rescue Service eight fire trucks, two operational vehicles and one ambulance early next year.

According to the Liberia National Fire and Rescue Service Director, Col. Alex K. Dickson, the items are intended to enhance the operation of the LNFRS to be decentralized and empower it, in order to timely respond to fire incidents in Liberia.

He made the remark recently during the signing and presentation of a new Organogram document, a revised document that has changed the name of the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS) to the Liberia National Fire and Rescue Service (LNFRS).

He added that the lack of firefighting equipment, logistics and adequate budgetary allotment has been a major problem impeding the smooth running of the institution.

The fire service boss described the signing as a milestone achievement, adding that the document seeks to provide guidance for officers of the Fire Service and now “Fire Rescue Service”.

He further mentioned that the document is the first of its kind since the establishment of the fire service, and gives a clear picture of each employee’s responsibility.

“It was not an easy task to craft this document; it was very tough when it came to the financial aspect and other pressing issues,” Col. Dickson asserted.

Meanwhile, Col. Dickson is constantly advising Liberians to be careful about the proper use of candles, mosquito colts and other dangerous equipment at home, which usually cause destruction.

Receiving the document, the Deputy Director for Administration, Col. Gabriel Nmah, said he will work with the document to hold fire fighters accountable while he, too, is held accountable by his bosses.
