Information reaching the Hot Pepper is that the former Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) Deputy Governor for Operation, Charles E. Sirleaf, is throwing his weight into the political race come 2023, with the intention of contesting in district #10, Montserrado County.

Montserrado County’s district #10 comprises of all the communities of Old Road, as well as Congo Town and Peace Island, and is one of the populated districts in the county, with its incumbent Representative being Yekeh Kolubah.

There can be no argument about Charles Sirleaf being a force to reckon with if he selects to contest the district #10 race, as he holds a track record of community engagements with dwellers of the district and has been contributing immensely to the welfare of that part of the country and beyond.

A source close to Sirleaf informed the Hot Pepper that the former Deputy Governor has fully sponsored over 3,000 (three thousand) students at a number of universities, including the University of Liberia (UL), African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU), AME Zion University and United Methodist University (UMU) over a period of 22 (twenty-two) years.

The Hot Pepper was also informed that Sirleaf has also supported the Christian and Muslim communities through various religious organizations, provided external support for children at various levels of education and played an advocacy role for prisoners at the Monrovia South Beach Prison.

Sirleaf holds a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) in finance from Mercer University, Atlanta, Georgia, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Maryland, USA. He is a graduate of the College of West Africa (CWA), Ashmun Street, Monrovia.

Professionally, Sirleaf has left an indelible mark on the banking sector, both national and internationally, serving many banking institutions in Liberia and America. He served as Manager of Citizens and Southern Bank (C&S), Atlanta, Georgia; Manager (Officer) of Citicorp Credit Corporation, Georgia; Manager of Business Development and Trade, Meridien BIAO Bank Liberia Ltd; Vice President and President of National Housing and Savings Bank, Liberia; and as Banking Manager, Director of Finance and Deputy Governor for Operation of the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL).

Besides his banking experience, Sirleaf also served as economics instructor at the University of Liberia (1998—2006), Special Assistant to the Resident Representative of UNDP in Namibia (1996—1998) and the Special Assistant to the Assistant Minister of the Ministry of Finance (2000—2003).

However, it is not yet clear as to which party Sirleaf intends to contest on, or whether he would prefer being an independent candidate. What is clear to this paper is that Team Charles Sirleaf is already in the making, with a general slogan, “Together We Can Make The Difference”.
