Alleged Girlfriend Killer Dragged To Monrovia Central Prison
A 38-year-old man, Mohammed Fofana, alias “Laye”, who allegedly killed his girlfriend, Aminata Talawally, in Gardnersville, Shoe Factory Community, has been dragged to the Monrovia Central Prison by Magistrate Ben Bacon of the Monrovia City Court, Temple of Justice.
Magistrate Bacon’s Monday, May 29, 2023 action came after the Liberia National Police (LNP) forwarded defendant Fofana to the court for prosecution.
The defendant was arrested by the police, acquainted with his Miranda Rights, investigated and subsequently charged with murder for assaulting his girlfriend, who was later pronounced dead by Doctor Kargbo on May 17, 2023.
According to the police charge sheet, during CSD’s in-depth investigation, it was revealed that defendant Fofana, alias “Laye”, and the late Talawally were boyfriend and girlfriend who had known one another for more than three years, but lived at separate locations.
“It was further revealed that on May 17, 2023, between the hours of 4-5 a.m., an altercation ensued between the defendant and the victim in the victim’s room at the NTA-community, which degenerated into a fight between both of them: the victim allegedly insulted defendant Fofana’s mother,” the charge sheet disclosed.
It revealed that the police investigation also established that Talawally (deceased) went unconscious during the fight with the defendant, and he abandoned her in the room when he knew full well that he had beaten her and she was helpless. He went away for more than three hours before returning to his girlfriend, pretending that he brought her food money.
The charge sheet said upon the defendant’s arrival at his girlfriend’s house, he met the girl lying down unresponsive, at which time he called community members to see the condition of his girlfriend in the room.
“The community members, having observed the victim’s condition as unresponsive, decided to have the Police of Gardnerville, Zone Four (4) Station informed,” the police charge sheet stated.
According to the charge sheet, the Zone Four Police, based on the information, responded to the scene, assessed the victim’s condition, and immediately contacted the Homicide Squad at Central Police Headquarters.
During the police investigation of defendant Fofana, he attempted to deny any role in the matter, but he later admitted to his involvement, based upon the skillful questioning of the CSD investigators as well as the witnesses’ account.
The act of defendant Fofana, murder, violates Chapter 14, Section 14.1 of the Revised Penal Law of Liberia.
