The interim President of Mali, His Excellency General Assimi Goita, on Thursday, March 13, 2025, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Republic of Liberia, led by Her Excellency Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss Liberia’s quest for a bid of a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Foreign Minister Nyanti conveyed a message of friendship and solidarity from His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, accentuating the strong historical and cultural ties between the two nations.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Nyanti underscored Liberia’s commitment to representing Africa’s strategic interests on the global stage. “Liberia’s bid for the United Nations Security Council is rooted in our unwavering commitment to advancing Africa’s priorities—promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across the continent. To achieve this, we seek the solidarity and support of our sister nations, including Mali, to secure a place where Liberia can be a strong voice for Africa.”

The Dean of the cabinet highlighted the shared destiny of Mali and Liberia, reaffirming the deep geographical, cultural, and historical bonds that unite the two nations.

“We believe Liberia’s experience in peacebuilding, regional diplomacy, and post-conflict recovery uniquely positions us to contribute meaningfully to the Council’s work, ensuring African perspectives are reflected in global decision-making,” she added.

Foreign Minister Nyanti expressed gratitude for the warm reception and productive discussions with President Goita, noting her optimism that Mali would stand with Liberia in this important diplomatic endeavor.

The visit marks a crucial step in Liberia’s on-going campaign to secure broad support across Africa for its bid, reflecting the nation’s renewed commitment to global peace and security under President Boakai’s leadership.
