The Board of Commissioners of the National Elections Commission (NEC) has finally reserved rulings in the Grand Cape Mount and Sinoe counties election irregularities dispute cases from the conduct of the December 8, 2021 special senatorial elections.
The Board of Commissioners on Monday, March 22, 2021 listened to arguments and counter-arguments in the hearing of an appeal filed by Victor Watson, Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Grand Cape Mount County, against Simeon B. Taylor, Senator-elect, Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), Grand Cape Mount County.
Lawyers representing incumbent Senator, Victor Watson, led by Cllr. Alhiji Sayubu Sheriff, in a 20-count submission, is asking the Board of Commissioners to notify the election of Simeon Taylor as Senator-elect, Grand Cape Mount County, asserting that Taylor voted two times at two different centers, citing chapter 10.2 of new election law.
The head of the Administrative Court at the NEC and Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, said the parties will be served notice of the date and time for the Board’s ruling.
In the second hearing on an appeal growing out of the case, the CPP, by and through its Sinoe County Chairman, Thomas Treason, and Grace Scotland Brimah, Sinoe County, verses Augustine S. Chea, Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), lawyers representing Grace Scotland Brimah are praying that the Board of Commissioners grant them their prayer to conduct a re-run in 14 polling places in districts #2 and #3, Sinoe County, alleging election irregularities, including the very late opening of some polling places at around 3:00 p.m. on election day.
