ArcelorMittal Begins Payment Of Former Aggrieved Workers
Former and aggrieved workers of ArcelorMittal have finally begun receiving payment from the company after over five years of dispute between them and the management, and interventions from the Ministry of Labor and other partners.
Meanwhile, ArcelorMittal’s agreeing to settle the aggrieved workers’ payment is due to the intervention of President George M. Weah, who has been hailed by the aggrieved workers for ensuring that they receive what is rightfully theirs.
In their statement of appreciation to President Weah, the leader of the former aggrieved workers of ArcelorMittal, Arkin Cisco, on behalf of his colleagues thanked the President for his timely intervention in ensuring that they receive what is rightfully theirs, and for showing them that he cares for the citizens of Nimba and that of Grand Bassa County.
“Today, Thursday October 7th 2021, we the former aggrieved workers of ArcelorMittal finally started receiving our well-deserved payments. Our people have suffered for so long. They have cried for more than 5 years for justice and at last, it was rendered. Without President Weah’s intervention, it would never have been possible. Thank you our president,” the aggrieved workers’ leader, Cisco, stated.
“We also like to thank ArcelorMittal and its management for their honesty in doing right by us. It was not easy to reach this settlement. But both the former workers and AML decided to put peace first. Although we believe we deserve more than what we are getting, we accepted what AML offered us for the sick of peace and tomorrow’s relationship.
“Finally, we want to thank the Minister of Labor and his team, National Bureue of Concessions and the Ministry Justice, for their hard work in helping us reach this settlement,” Cisco added.
