ArcelorMittal Liberia, a subsidiary of the global steel and mining powerhouse ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML), serves as a beacon of collaboration by actively engaging with communities in Liberia to make significant contributions to social and economic development.

Beyond being a mere business entity, every operation of ArcelorMittal worldwide is an integral part of its local community, committed to fostering growth and progress.

The company’s steadfast dedication to economic development is evident through initiatives such as job creation, local infrastructure projects, and facilitating opportunities for local businesses to supply its operations.

ArcelorMittal Liberia’s mining project stands out as one of the most substantial foreign investments in Liberia, accompanied by an active encouragement for others to follow suit.

The impact of the company extends beyond the economic realm, as ArcelorMittal Liberia collaborates with communities in its operational areas on vital health and education projects, showcasing a holistic approach to community development.

An exemplary initiative is the Safety Club, established in 2011 across 50 schools in Grand Bassa, Bong, and Nimba counties. These Safety Clubs, each comprising ten students, act as messengers of health and safety, with regular refresher training reinforcing the on-going priority of these crucial messages.

In 2012, ArcelorMittal initiated a program providing new prosthetic limbs to amputees across Liberia, impacting over 250 individuals in Monrovia, Grand Bassa, Bong, and Nimba counties.

This charitable endeavor, resulting from a new partnership, delivered state-of-the-art prosthetic devices, offering renewed hope to those who had lost limbs due to accidents, war injuries, or disease.

Demonstrating its commitment to Liberia’s development, the company launched the Advanced Academic Studies Scholarship (AASS) in August 2012.

This scholarship program awarded US$200,000 to Liberian students pursuing graduate studies in the sciences, procurement, and logistics, reflecting ArcelorMittal Liberia’s dedication to nurturing the country’s intellectual capital.

As of 2018, the Community Liaison Department continues to spearhead various livelihood projects in Nimba County, showcasing on-going dedication to community well-being.

From education and training opportunities to programs supporting vulnerable populations, ArcelorMittal Liberia actively collaborates with stakeholders to build a better Liberia. The company remains at the forefront, constructing new schools, market halls, hand pumps, hospitals, and other essential facilities in or near its concession areas, symbolizing a steadfast commitment to positive local development.

ArcelorMittal Liberia’s multifaceted approach sets the stage for a collaborative and sustainable future for the communities it serves, especially those in Grand Bassa, Bong, and Nimba counties.
