The ArcelorMittal-owned and -operated vocational training Center in Yekepa, Nimba County, has recruited sixty (60) young Liberians.

The 60 were inducted into the highly motivated skill training program on January 17, 2022 at the company’s facilities in Yekepa, and received a rousing welcome at the ArcelorMittal Liberia Training Academy.

Launched in 2018, the ArcelorMittal Liberia Vocational Training Center (VTC) in Yekepa, now the ArcelorMittal Training Academy, is a US$7 million investment by the company to provide improved technical, educational opportunities in several disciplines for young Liberians to enhance the workforce and economic development for a prosperous Liberia.

In May 2021, the Academy graduated its first batch of students after a 3-year intensive training and the successful completion of international standard exams.

Recruits are between the ages of 18 to 26 years and must not be enrolled in school or employed.

Before a candidate is considered successful, he or she, among other requirements, must be self-motivated, willing to learn, hardworking, and must be able to pass a physical examination conducted by ArcelorMittal Liberia.

The funding and operation of the VTC by ArcelorMittal is in recognition of the entity’s urge to provide opportunity to empower youth, align education as well as to enhance workforce and economic development for a prosperous Liberia.

Since its launch, the AML vocational facility has been committed to providing globally recognized and certified professional training for roles such as diesel mechanics, electricians, mechanical fitters, etc.

After an intensive recruitment process, excited and anxious apprentices participate in the most innovative and well-structured vocational and technical program, facilitated by a full academic and boarding scholarship: tuition, housing, three meals a day and a monthly stipend.

This fully supported training model is intended to ensure that the students fully commit to their studies and practice to ensure excellence.
