The President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah, on Monday, August 22, 2022, nominated several persons, including the new Chief Justice of the Republic of Liberia. President Weah nominated Associate Justice Sie-A-Nyene Gyapay Yuoh as Chief Justice of the Republic of Liberia, to replace Chief Justice Francis Korkpor, who retires in September 2022.

The Liberian leader, cognizant of the expiration of their tenures, soon re-nominated Edwina Crump Zackpah and Zotawon Titus Commissioners at the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA), and Thomas Doe Nah as the Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA). Zackpah was also nominated as Acting Chairman of the LTA’s commissioners.

Similarly at the National Election Commission, Boakai Dukuly was re-nominated as Commissioner.

President Weah also nominated Cllr. Niveda C. Ricks-Onuoha and Atty. Patmilla Doe Paivey as commissioners of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR).

Where applicable, the President’s nominations are subject to confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

Meanwhile, the Senate Statutory Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, Claims and Petitions, headed by Grand Cape Mount County Senator, Cllr. Varney Gboto-Nambi Sherman, will on Friday, August 26, 2022 conduct confirmation hearing for Chief Justice-designate, Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh.

President George Weah on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, communicated with the Senate on the nomination of Associate Justice Yuoh as Chief Justic-designate of the Republic of Liberia.

The Chief Executive’s communication was read during Tuesday’s session of the Senate and forwarded to the relevant committee for confirmation action.

According to the Committee, the confirmation hearing will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the main Senate’s Chambers.

As a matter of requirement, the Senate Judiciary Committee has requested the nominee to submit thirty-five (35) copies of her curriculum vitae and supporting credentials to aid the committee in the confirmation proceeding, to the office of the Secretary of the Senate,  J. Nanborlor F. Singbeh Sr.

If confirmed by the Senate, Justice Yuoh replaces His Honor Francis Korkpor, who retires in September 2022.

In a related development, the Senate has also  mandated its relevant committees to conduct confirmation hearings for Edwina Crump Zackpah and Zotawon Titus (re-nominated) Commissioners at the Liberia Telecommunication Authority (LTA), and Thomas Doe Nah (re-nominated) Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).

Other nominees for confirmation include Cllr. Boakai Dukuly (re-nominated) Commissioner of the National Elections Commission (NEC), as well as Cllr. Niveda C. Ricks-Onuoha and Atty. Patmilla Doe Paivey as commissioners of the Independent National Human Rights Commission.
