The Chairman of the Asset Recovery and Property Retriever Taskforce, Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin, says the Taskforce will need not less than US$1.9 million to begin the process of recovering Liberia’s stolen assets; Cynthia Quinisier reports.

Speaking during the Ministry of Information regular press briefing on Thursday, March 21, 2024, Cllr. Martin revealed that the taskforce will in the next ten days begin to issue writs on suspected corrupt individuals. According to him, the writs will be issued to restrain people from leaving the jurisdiction of the court pending court action.

The chairman clarified that, contrary to the notion in the public that they will move on people for government assets, the taskforce will use the court to ensure that the law takes its course.

He said that the asset recovery team will be protected by the joint security, and they will not compromise with any government official.

“We will be robust and fearless, and we will always go for the crime and not the respective position,” Chairman Martin assured.

The chairman also said the asset recovery team is not to witch-hunt any past government officials but to do the right thing for the country.
