The Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Kirsty Coventry on her historic election as the new President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). “As a decorated former Zimbabwean swimmer and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Coventry’s remarkable leadership, dedication to sports development, and commitment to the Olympic Movement have been widely recognized,” a LNOC press release noted.

According to the release, “Winning in the first round of voting is a testament to her vision and the trust placed in her by the global sporting community. The LNOC is confident that under her leadership, the IOC will continue to uphold the values of excellence, unity, and inclusivity in sports.

“Kirsty Coventry’s journey from an elite athlete to a respected global sports administrator is truly inspiring. As Africa’s first female IOC President, her election marks a significant milestone for the continent and the world of sports.

The LNOC release added that, with her vast experience as an Olympian, former Minister of Sports in Zimbabwe, and IOC member, she is well-positioned to drive meaningful progress and innovation within the Olympic Movement.

“The LNOC looks forward to working closely with President Coventry in advancing the Olympic spirit and fostering opportunities for athletes worldwide. We wish her great success in this new and prestigious role,” the Liberia National Olympic Committee, headed by Cllr. Sylvester Rennie, observed.
