Atty. Joah: “ls Time To Hold GOL’s Feet To The Fire For Accountability”
“No matter how long there will be accountability in Liberia,” Atty. Monbeydo Joah told the Hot Pepper.
Following the recent conference on the establishment of a war and economic crimes court, held in Monrovia by the Global Justice for Research Project, in partnership with some international groups, Atty. Joah was asked about her opinion about the establishment of a war crimes court and the establishment of an economic crimes court in Liberia.
According to her, Liberia is an interesting county where perpetrators of war and economic crimes move around, with nothing being done to them.
Atty. Joah said the government needs to organize peace forums in order to address issues confronting the well-being of Liberian citizens. She indicated that reputation is key to Liberia’s war crimes court establishment. She said in developing countries, victims of war are given some funding for compensation of their lives.
She said the establishment of a war and economic crimes court should be welcomed by any well-meaning Liberian citizens. According to her, with that the growing generation will know how to live among their fellowmen.
She said she wants the implementation of the Truth Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations crafted in the American model. She said with Liberia’s fragile peace, the establishment of a war crimes court is important to the country’s growth and development.
