–LIS Boss Tells ECOWAS Citizens Union
Speaking as one of the guest lecturers at the program making the official celebration of ECOWAS Citizens Union 49th anniversary, held at the PHP Sports Park in Monrovia, the Commissioner General (CG) of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Atty. Stephen Zargo, told members of ECOWAS Citizens Union in Liberia to be good citizens of ECOWAS, then they will be protected by the Government of Liberia (GOL). He noted that, as part of the President’s ARREST Agenda, the well-being of ECOWAS citizens is prioritized.
According to the LIS boss, formalities to digitize ECOWAS citizens Residence Permit are underway by the Government of Liberia (GOL) to address some of the constraints confronting ECOWAS citizens residing in Liberia.
Liberia has operated a manual ECOWAS booklet, but the government, through the Liberia Immigration Service(LIS) is working on a modality to introduce a digitizedECOWAS residence permit platform at an affordable price.
The LIS boss recommended harmonizing one immigration training for member states’ immigration offices in the region. He said the harmonized one immigration training will help address some of the challenges faced by ECOWAS citizens in the region.
He stated that Liberia has enjoyed a good working relationship with ECOWAS for years, and has also benefited from the relationship.
According to the LIS boss, the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) will, on May 29, 2024, participate in an immigration workshop training taking place in Lagos,Nigeria. He explained that the training focuses on migration issues in West Africa.
The colorful program was well attended by some ECOWAS officials in the sub-region. Several officials from ECOWAS Citizens Union received certificates of recognition for their role in the region during the period under review.
Commany B. Wesseh served as the keynote speaker at the ECOWAS Citizens Union’s anniversary. He spoke on a wide range of issues confronting the workings of ECOWAS in Liberia and the sub-region at large. Ambassador Wesseh commended individuals who played beneficial roles during Liberia’s quest for peace.
ECOWAS Citizens Union was established in 1991, andrepresents member states of ECOWAS residing in Liberia.
