Bong County’s district #6 Representative, Moima Briggs Mensah, has been hailed for her neutral stance in the impasse at the House of Representatives, and commended for not helping to fuel the tension by taking side in the matter.

In a statement issued Monday, November 25, 2024, civil society activist and staunch member of the Center for the Exchange Intellectual Opinions (CEIO), Macclean Renner, observed that Representative Mensah’s stance to remain neutral in the matter reflects a dedication to fostering an unbiased environment for dialogue and collaboration, and an emphasis on the importance of fair representation and balance in the legislative process.

According to Activist Renner, by choosing not to align with any faction, Representative Moima Briggs Mensah encourages a focus on the interests of constituents rather than partisan conflicts. “Her decision illustrates a principled approach that prioritizes the legislative body’s integrity and the democratic process, resonating with those who value thoughtful discourse over divisive politics,” he noted.

“Distinguished members of the wider public… On the fateful day of Thursday, October 17, 2024, the grounds of the Capitol Building were a scene of traction when some 47 members of the House of Representatives signed a resolution to oust the Speaker of the 55th House of Representatives. The process, which was allegedly married by bribery, has since hindered normal activities at the House of Representatives. What is very shocking and the source of my repugnance is that they don’t seem to fear that their actions bears trigger a national uprising against them by ‘We the people’ being made repeatedly hopeless in the system of representation by their continuous demonstration of lack of sense of duty to the country and its highly poor people, most of whom live very regrettably below a dollar a day. What a shame these people have become,” activist Renner’s statement further observed.

The activist pointed out that members of the intellectual class have, however, come to realize that Representative Mensah is a lawmaker who believes in transparency, accountability, integrity and the rule of law, and her love for the country is overwhelming in these critical dark times.

He entreated her to maintain her neutral stance, as it is in the best interest of the country and its democracy.
